Ballyliffin Lodge & Spa has been in operation for 20 years. It is the most northernly hotel in Ireland. The owner wanted the hotel to be more sustainable for future generations. Using the SEAI grants available, they were able to arrange for a large solar array to be constructed at the rear of the premises. Alot of care and planning was undertaken to ensure the panels merged with the natural environment. All of the lighting was changed to automatic sensor LED. The laundry facility was brought in house. A new heat management system was installed including ”Heat Boss” which manages the temperature in the hotel rooms individually. They also installed a new boiler which is powered by a renewable wood chip heating system.
